If your dog makes friends with a skunk this fall while hunting I have a tried and true recipe that will make your partner smell like new in short order.
Mix together these items and bath. If once doesn't do it give your pooch a second bath and the problem should be gone.
1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 tsp dish washing liquid

Craig: I have seen it noted (by folks who should know) that fresh peroxide is key to the effectiveness of the solution. JR
Rex sure would have needed this recipe for his dog Scout. He has a great post about Scout's tangle with a skunk on the Deer Camp Blog.
I'll have to write this recipe down and try to remember what I did with it when the time comes of needing it. Do you think it'll dry the skin out? Not that it'll matter to much to me because I'd much rather hear the dog scratching than smell the other effects. But if it does dry the skin - it's like a double whammy for the dog.
My dog got hit twice by skunks this year and it is not very much fun at all...
