A Deer's Attention Span

Researchers have proven that a deer has an attention span of about 3 minutes. If you have made a mistake, and you can hold your composure and be silent, all may not be lost. The deer may resume his natural activities. Recovering from a noise or motion mistake can be done but if the deer gets your scent its game over.

Now that is a cool little tidbit. I'm sure if all of us think about it we've actually had this work for us a couple of times! Very cool

Another great tip I learned a couple years ago is to keep in mind that deer don't have peripheral vision like we do. I've drawn my bow within 15 yards of a deer while I was on the ground with no cover. It was standing broadside and looking straight ahead. Never saw it coming. So, if you want to avoid spooking deer from your stand in the first place, keep that vision thing in mind and stay quiet.

I don't know craig. I've had bucks bust me and sneak back looking for me several hours later. They'll come in upwind and I can swear they are looking to see if I'm still around.

Agreed. If a buck spots you or smells you they will remember you.
